Emma Bain is seventeen years old and lives near Cardiff. She first picked up the horn at the age of 10, and went on to become Principal Horn in the National Children’s Orchestra, where she won a Leverhulme Scholarship for two consecutive years. At the age of 13, she successfully auditioned for the National Youth Orchestra, with whom she performed at major venues throughout the country, including live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 from the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and a televised BBC Proms Concert in London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Emma studies at Chetham’s School of Music with the renowned horn teachers Lizzie Davis and Julian Plummer. Since starting at Chetham’s in 2010, she has achieved ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction and DipABRSM with distinction, and has performed as a soloist and with many ensembles including Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra in concerts inside school and around the country. Recent engagements include a performance with the Commonwealth Festival Orchestra in Westminster Abbey, two solo horn recitals in Peterborough Cathedral, a solo recital as part of the Oundle Music Festival and numerous solo and ensemble performances and workshops in Sri Lanka as part of “The Commonwealth Resounds” project.
